How We Got Started
My colleague and I met while working at a web hosting company. His skill set lead him into the art of exploitation and vulnerabilities. My skill set leans toward programming. As you can kind of guess, him working on breaking programs, and me building them, caused us to bump into each other. After realizing our skill sets and methodogies formed a sort of symbiotic relationship, we started tossing ideas around based on, "How can we help people?".
Well, what we came up with was right in front of us. It is Wordpress!
You are either a developer and all to familiar with the 'Ugh', but understanding it, or you are an average person that wants a professional looking site, without wanting to purcahse software, and trying to get this thing to that thing so the world can see your creation, and in general dealing with the headaches of learning how some software thing works.
According to WordPress.Org:32% of the web uses WordPress, from hobby blogs to the biggest news sites online. Over 60 million people have chosen WordPress to power the place on the web they call “home” — join the family.
When you have a large user base it will draw the hacker community. Why? Well, it is quite simple, it is easier to learn a few tricks that affect a large number of users as opposed to learning a bunch of tricks that only affect a few groups.
Here is a little more about us.
Joe was an infantryman in the US Army, serving 4 years. During that time period he became interested in security, more specifically 'cyber'. After his tenure in the armed force ended he persued his interest in Cyber-Security and in mid-2018 gained his OWASP Certification. Now he is happily the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) of TestmyPress.Org.
Hi, I'm Tim and most likely will be your guide throughout this adventure. As for me, not so glamorous. In 2008 I decided I wanted to learn about computer programming. I eventually got a bachelor's degree in 'Information System Security' with a minor in 'Web Developing'. I kind of haphazardly stumpled into system admnistrative duties. Studying programming languages, and the art of web development, I started getting into the environment of the website. This lead to building my own web server, database server, and email server. Most of the adventures you have, and interaction on this site will be my doing; sorry about that! Please, if you find a bug, have a suggestion, or simply want to make a comment, please contact us!
